It is "ballad" week here on Music Row.
Steve Azar, Alan Jackson, John Anderson, Carrie
Underwood, Timothy Craig, Josh Canova and John Fogerty are all vying for
your attention with slower-paced outings.
-This acoustic ballad of pleading and yearning is
Craig's finest single to date. I like the simplicity of the
organ/accordion/guitar arrangement as well as his heartfelt vocal. It is a
benefit disc for St. Jude's.

SEC notebook: Tim Tebow's 'promise'
inspires a song
- By Michael DiRocco
- Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009
|
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow's
promise inspired the Gators. It has now inspired a song, too. Nashville
singer Timothy Craig adapted a song
he wrote about not giving up on his dream of a career in music. It's
titled "Not Done Yet," and Craig tailored the lyrics to Tebow and the
promise Tebow made after the Gators lost to Ole Miss last season. "It
actually came out really fast, which was kind of crazy," Craig said. "It
came out in about an hour. All the signs kept saying to do this. Even
getting in the studio to redo the verses. There was no signs or hurdles
that I was wasting my time. I did it out of passion. I felt really driven
to get this song done." Craig, who grew up a Gators fan in Fort Myers,
originally wrote "Not Done Yet" for his 2008 album entitled "You Got it."
After UF's loss to Ole Miss, Craig said he sent the album to UF coach
Urban Meyer and wrote him a note
telling him to check out track No. 8 - which was "Not Done Yet." Craig
decided to re-record it about Tebow after he was watching the first
college football games of the season on ESPN and saw
Kenny Chesney's recording of "This
Is Our Moment." Craig's inspiration came when saw the issue of Sports
Illustrated that came out after Tebow's decision to return to Gainesville
for his senior season. The headline on the front of the SI was "Not Done
Yet." "I was like, 'I want a song for the Gators, not just for college
football, but for the Gators,' " Craig said. "I looked down at the coffee
table and saw Sports Illustrated. I was like, 'You dummy.' I already have
the song." The song is available on iTunes and at several sports shops
near Florida Field. It also can be heard on his Web site,

Florida Gators
Hey, Gator fans, have you downloaded your song yet? Timothy Craig and
Billy Falcon, a couple of fans who also happen to be musicians, got
together to write a song just for your team and Tim Tebow. It's called
"Not Done Yet." There's a video on You Tube, and you can buy the track on
iTunes. Here are some sample lyrics: I
play to win / No time to lose / It's who I am / It's what I do.

UF makes 'Not Done Yet' a hit for former resident
By MEGHAN McCOY

A professional Nashville country singer, who grew up and attended
schools in Cape Coral, recently experienced a dream come true with his
song, "Not Done Yet." It's a track off of his fifth record, which was
released last year. Timothy Craig said his song has become very popular
over the past two weeks after he saw a Sports Illustrated magazine with
University of Florida Gator quarterback Tim Tebow making the statement
that he is "Not Done Yet." He said the quarterback was referring to a
promise he made last season to his teammates after the Gators' loss to Ole
Miss. Craig said his promise to himself, which gave him inspiration to
write the song, was the same promise Tebow made to his teammates of not
quitting and not being done yet.
Craig took it upon himself to send his new CD "You Got It" to the
University of Florida Gators head football coach Urban Meyers. In the
package he sent the original lyrics to "Not Done Yet." "I won't quit, my
heart won't let me break a promise, I can't forget, I'm not done yet," his
lyrics state.
Craig said he re-wrote the verses of one of the songs on the new CD to
tailor Tebow's promise to the Florida Gators, but he said he kept the same
lyrics for the chorus. After sending the package to the coach, he said he
received a thank you card in the mail from the coach and quarterback,
along with two autographs, after they defeated Oklahoma for the national
title. "I wanted to write a song about college football and about the
Gators specifically," Craig said. He said he has always loved the Gators.
The single, "Not Done Yet," is available at Rainbow Records in Cape Coral,
Brents Music in Fort Myers and at the University of Florida bookstores for
$5. Craig said the single will be available on iTunes in about a month.
"I'm excited for it to be on iTunes because then it's instant for people
to purchase," he said. Craig said his musical journey began during middle
school when he first got a taste for the drums. After he graduated from
High School he moved to Gainsville to attend Santa Fe, where his passion
of music grew. While in Gainsville, Craig taught himself how to play the
acoustic guitar, along with writing song lyrics for the first time. He
said his journey then led him to Nashville, Tenn., where he continued his
musical dream of playing with a band and in front of others. Craig's
journey then led him to L.A. where he expanded his passion of music. While
there he decided to move back to Nashville where he wrote his most recent
album."I played in L.A. forever and then decided that country music became
edgy in Nashville and thought that's where I wanted to be," he said.
"That's where everything started really happening. "It's been a really fun
ride, it's been really great," Craig said about his success in the music
industry. He said he does not regret not finishing school or where his
journey has led him. "I would do the same thing over again," Craig said.

Cape Coral native has hit with his song about Gators
Timothy Craig and Tim Tebow are "Not Done Yet."
Tebow, the University of Florida quarterback, landed on the Jan. 19 cover
of Sports Illustrated with those three words as the headline. He and the
Gators hope to win their third NCAA title in four years in this, his
senior season. Craig, a Cape Coral native and professional musician in
Nashville, Tenn., already had co-written an inspirational country/rock
song, coincidentally titled "Not Done Yet," released in the summer of
2008. During the past two weeks, Craig has rewritten some of that song's
lyrics, tailoring them toward the Tebow-led Gators. He re-recorded the new
lyrics and packaged the song into a CD single. Then, he drove from
Nashville to Gainesville, where he marketed the song to the university's
athletic department and the Florida Book Store, where it's being sold for
$5. Eventually, the song will be available on iTunes. Craig co-wrote the
original version with Billy Falcon, who has written 10 songs with Jon Bon
Jovi for his band's last five releases. "It was about me and my passion
for music and not stopping,"Craig said of "Not Done Yet." "I won't quit,"
the song says. "My heart won't let me break a promise. I can't forget. I'm
not done yet."Craig mailed a copy of his fifth and most recent CD, "You
Got It," to Florida coach Urban Meyer late last year, urging him to listen
to track No. 8, the original version of "Not Done Yet." On the same day
Florida defeated Oklahoma for the national title, Craig received a
thank-you card from Meyer along with an autographed photo from him and
Tebow. That, combined with the Sports Illustrated cover, got Craig
thinking two weeks ago while watching ESPN's "College Game Day." Craig
heard songs from country artists Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney being
played, and wished he could have such a song, too. "The lightbulb went
off," Craig said. "Like a lightning bolt hit me. I already had the song. I
rewrote it. I re-recorded the chorus. I mastered it. It was in Gainesville
within two weeks." Craig said he has been in contact with ESPN about
playing his song on a future show. He took a side trip to Cape Coral and
Fort Myers on Sunday and Monday, catching up with family. "We're very
happy and proud of him," said Fort Myers resident Dee, Craig's sister.
"He's a fabulous songwriter and musician. I think his songs are fabulous.
He can put music to his words, and not many people can do that."When Tebow
promised his fans last year that he would not quit following a loss to Ole
Miss, part of his speech landed on a T-shirt, which remains one of the
biggest sellers at the Florida Book Store. Nandy Ferguson, store general
manager, said Craig's CD just might take off there as well. "He's got a
lot of people excited about it," Ferguson said. "It's all about not
letting your team down."

Timothy Craig recently rewrote one of the songs on his album, "You Got
It," with lyrics about his favorite football team, the Florida Gators. The
song is called "Not Done Yet." (Amanda Inscore/news-press.com)

Band: TIMOTHY
CRAIG
Album:
You Got It
Label: Ball & Chain Entertainment
Timothy Craig is no stranger to music fans in multiple
genres. As a matter of fact in the early 2000’s he was a
little too rock for country and made his way to Los Angeles.
While there he played a majority of the major clubs bringing
his pop rock driven sounds to LA where he was told he was
too country for rock. What? Craig himself says it best when
he said, “I’m doing what I always have done except now
country has come to me.” With the changing landscape of
country thanks in part to guitar driven rockers like
Keith Urban, Craig now fits the country mold and he
shows it with the release of You Got It. It doesn’t
take you long to find out what Craig is all about. He gives
it to you on the album opener “You Got It,” as he blends his
influences from country and rock together perfectly and
sings a playful lyric focused on doing just about anything
for the girl you are in love with and as you know guys,
we’ve all been there and done it. His poppy brand of rockin’
country shows up again and again throughout the album on
cuts like current single “Got
Good Friends,” “Not Done Yet,” “Real Big Love,” and
“Groupie Love Song,” all which grab you with their
catchiness as they pull you through the song driving it home
in the chorus. He does slow things down from time to time on
the album with tracks like “Tell
Me Where It Hurts,” where we see a heartfelt Timothy
Craig singing a lyric to friend showing them that he will be
there to help them get through a broken heart. With the
combination of a Jack Ingram meets
Tom Petty style in his voice, mixed together with
modern country branded pop/rock, Timothy Craig is certainly
an artist to keep a watch on if this album is any
indication.

Timothy Craig - 'You Got It'
Ball and Chain Entertainment
You Got It Bottom Line:
Nashville has some amazing new artists coming out of the
cracks and one of them is Timothy Craig. His music is hip and
full of lyrics that fans will understand right from the start.
Every single word out of his mouth is heartfelt, which helps the
listener truly comprehend where each song came from. Timothy
Craig proves that he has what it takes to be a star, now it is
up to the fans to get his music played. If you love country
music and what it stands for, You Got It is an album to
check out.
About Timothy Craig
For those of you who are not familiar with Timothy Craig, now
is your chance. He was originally born in Wisconsin, but made he
way south at the early age of five when his parents moved to
South Florida. His father was an avid music lover and actually
put himself through college by writing songs and fronting a rock
and roll band throughout the 60's. By the time Timothy was in
junior high, he had started his own band called the CT2Express.
Although the group only played at Timothy's house, this gave him
a chance to learn how to play music and have a feel for an
audience, even if it was just family and friends. After high
school, he went to college at the University of Florida. This is
when Timothy really started opening up to his creative side. He
started writing songs that reflected his influences. After
realizing that he wanted to pursue a life in music, he packed up
his things and headed for Music City. Once he arrived in
Nashville, Timothy put together a band an started playing his
original tunes at local clubs and events. This eventually led to
him becoming an opening act for Cheap Trick during a show on the
Riverfront. After playing in Nashville for a while, Timothy
decided it was time for a change and headed west to Los Angeles,
California. Once there, he put together another band and also
landed some roles for television shows such as 'American Dreams'
and 'NYPD Blue.' He also started playing in some of the hottest
clubs in town, which gave his music even more exposure. Now, with
the release of his fifth album, Timothy spends most of his time
back in Nashville. Hearing him sing on this album is like
listening to someone tell a story right from the heart. Each
word describes his feelings and each feeling describes him.
You Got It - The Songs:
The first tune off this record is also the title track. This
is not a bad song, but really is not as good as the others. In a
way, it is very repetitive, but the meaning is great. It is
about a man who is so in love with his other half, that he tells
her that he will do anything to change anything she does not
like. This is truly a tune that would let any woman know just
how much you love her. 'She's All About The Beat' is great. It
is all about a woman who is a music lover. The funny thing about
it is that she is not listening to the music simply for the
lyrics, but for the beat. Listening to it reminds me of
something that John Mellencamp would sing. There is a nice
mixture of country, rock, and soul all blended into one terrific
song. Another tune that sounds like Mr. Mellencamp is 'I Can
Stop Any Time I Want.' Again, Timothy is singing about a women
that he is deeply in love with. He is very clear that he could
stop loving her any time he wants, but he would never do that.
This is a great tune that describes how someone feels and really
hits home for listeners across the board. 'Close Enough For Me'
is a good track, but does not come close to 'Not Done Yet.' This
tune is rockin'. In away, it reminds me of a tune that would be
in a movie or television show. When someone has a passion, they
always strive to do it better. Sure, there are times when it
seems like it is impossible to continue, but your heart will not
let you quit. Bringing this record to a close is a tune called
'One Small Miracle.' This is the slowest song on the record and
strictly acoustic. It is about a relationship coming to an end.
You Got It is great. If you check it out, you won't
regret it. Release Date: May 29, 2008 - Ball and Chain

You Got It
(Timothy Craig) Ball & Chain
Timothy’s full project encompasses a wide range of
musical styles…although Timothy is country; he has the rough
vocals of easy rock. The beginning track and single ‘You Got It’
grows on the listener after hearing it through a couple of
times. His track ‘Close Enough for Me’ definitely showcases this
rock-side of his artistry and is my personal pick from the
album. His music is available at

Timothy Craig - You Got It
I’m more used to
books that I can’t put down than CDs that grab my “undivided,” as Paul
Harvey calls it, from the get-go, but Timothy Craig’s You Got It
had me hooked from the first bars of the opening, title song.
No, Craig hasn’t
covered Roy Orbison’s classic, though the lyrics of Timothy’s debut
single, which he cowrote with Billy Falcon, suggest the same desire to
please. What woman wouldn’t fall for a guy who is willing to forgo
football to view a movie with his beloved or to join her as she shops at
Target?
Timothy’s
energy, coupled with his cookin’ musicians, compels a listener to keep
listening to this highly original talent.
Tell Me Where
It Hurts is radio-friendly, concluding with One Small Miracle!
Timothy wrote or cowrote every song on this CD, I know I’ll be looking
forward to hearing more from him.

Where have I been? This is Timothy Craig's fifth release! Timothy
sports several hats on this undertaking: songwriter, vocalist and
producer. And he wears them all with style!
In a
recent interview, he
characterized
his music as
'passionate, honest, fun and rockin'' and this album is just that.
Timothy's influences range from Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Jimmy
Buffett, Bryan Adams, Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen; hence, the rock
'n roll guitar on several tunes, but there's also fiddle, steel, banjo
and mandolin! Overall, it's a nice mix. Standouts are 'You Got It' and
'Got Good Friends', but what really sold me on Timothy Craig was the
acoustic song, 'One Small Miracle.'

'You Got It' by ex-resident hits airwaves

"You Got It," the first single from the fifth album by
singer/songwriter Timothy Craig — who grew up in Southwest Florida
from age 5 — has hit the airwaves in Nashville and Fort Myers.
It's been released in advance of his album by the same name, due
to come out next month. The album is being released by Ball &
Chain Entertainment, a new independent label based in Nashville,
according to a news release.
Craig was born in Wisconsin and attended the University of
Florida. While there, he began writing his own songs on an old
acoustic guitar, with his inspiration coming from John Mellencamp,
Tom Petty and Jimmy Buffett.
After moving from his Fort Myers home to Nashville, Craig put a
band together and played his original music in clubs and outdoor
events in Nashville. The band also played several shows at the
Tennessee State Women's Prison, according to the release.
In February 2000, Craig moved to Los Angeles, formed a new band
and played his music in such clubs as The Whiskey A GoGo, The Roxy
and Club Lingerie. He's also performed in several acting roles,
the release said. Craig spends his time in Los Angeles and
Nashville.

release. I wrote all ten songs, produced it myself and it was recorded in
Los Angeles with my own band. I was just chosen by Radio Lightning 100 to
be the featured artist of the week in April. They played the song “Can’t You Feel My Heart” from the
new CD twice a day, everyday over the course of that week. It is also
available at Tower Records, timothycraig.com or at the live shows.
JB: How has
your career on the “live” music scene evolved over the years?
TC: I think living and
playing in Los Angeles really helped my live shows. Just by being in some
of those famous venues and performing with so many different bands over
five years. It kind of made me fearless!
Now I’m fortunate enough to have a great
band again here in Nashville. I have John Mcteige on drums, Michael Joyce
on bass and Donny “The Twangler” Roberts on lead guitar.
JB: What
avenues are you using to promote your music?
TC:
Well, the most important avenue for me is the live show. Mervin
over at Douglas Corner has been great and giving us Saturday nights. The
crowd has really been growing, especially since we have only played three
shows since I moved back from Los Angeles. In fact we have another show at
Douglas Corner on Saturday, May 20th @ 6:00pm.
I also have been co-writing with
singer/songwriters Billy Falcon, Amanda Williams and Michael Joyce.
I’m very excited to be working with a
prominent entertainment attorney here in Nashville as well named Robin
Mitchell Joyce. I have a great deal of respect for Robin and feel with her
on my team that the stars could be lining up! Of course, I use my website,
emails, CD Baby, Tower Records, Flyers, Posters, My Space, and I
always use my big mouth as ways to promote my music. I also have
the TCB Street Team that consists of Chet Creswell, Bill Morton, Beth
Brazil and Marjorie Lee. They really help get the word out about my music
and help get people out to the shows. Hope you can make it to our next
show at Douglas Corner on Saturday, May 20th. @ 6pm!
JB: If you
had to pick your five favorite songs of all time, which songs would you
pick?
TC: To
tough of a question for me, there are just too many songs that move me!
JB: If you
weren’t playing & making music, what would you be doing?
TC: I really can’t imagine my life being
about anything else. Life’s short and I have no regrets, I would live it
the same way all over again. When you’re hooked you’re hooked, it’s
in your soul. I wake up everyday happy and excited, ready to take on what
ever is next on my music to do list. I guess I feel lucky that I have
something I’m so Passionate about!
JB: What
words of advice do you have for newcomers to the Nashville music
community?
TC:
Persistence… “Nothing in the world can take the place of
persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men
with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence
and determination alone are omnipotent”.
-Calvin Coolidge-
“I’ve had that quote on my bulletin board
for years”!
